2012 Asteroid Destruction

I finally ran across a theory that I can believe with the 2012 asteroid predictions. It makes total sense to me that if a gigantic rock hit the earth at a tremendous speed, it would do some damage. I don't know about it affecting the whole planet, but it does seem possible. So…

• Can we expect destruction by an asteroid in 2012?

Asteroid Expectations for 2012

At the present time, NASA scientists say no, an asteroid will not collide with the earth in 2012. They've got a constant survey going on that is called the Spaceguard Survey that keeps a watch out for large asteroids that are near the earth.

A large asteroid has been identified and previously it was thought that it might impact earth in 2036, but in 2009 the likelihood of that was reduced when the path was recalculated. The name of this threatening asteroid is Apophis and NASA knew about it over 20 years before its estimated impact. The size of this asteroid is predicted to be greater than two football fields – very large.

It is possible that the status will change, but if it does most likely NASA will know it before an asteroid gets close to hitting our planet. What is cool about this survey setup is that the results are published on a website so if you are concerned you can actually check and see what has transpired and what is predicted.

Asteroid Impact Damage

Asteroid and comet impact threats are recognized by NASA and they do take the subject seriously although big impacts are rare. Usually asteroids and meteorites pass by the earth without impacting or are destroyed when they enter earth's atmosphere.

The damage would actually depend on the size of the asteroid. The University of Arizona has a website program that you can use to calculate the effects of an earth impact.

Will the World End in 2012 Due to an Asteroid Impact?

I do know that the entire world won't be destroyed by a 2012 asteroid because of the apocalypse that is lined out in the Book of Revelations in the Bible – something else that I personally believe in. An asteroid impact might cause severe damage and wreak havoc, but in my eyes based on biblical prophecy, the world won't suddenly end. A lot of things will take place before that happens.
