The 2012 Mayan Calendar and the People Who Developed It

A lot of educated people give credence to the 2012 Mayan calendar. The meaning of it is somewhat undetermined because so many artifacts of the Mayans were destroyed during Spanish colonization .

The Mayan calendar and the predictions that it suggests have gotten people to wonder if the Mayans were giving a warning about the end of the world or a drastic change in world as we know it.

The documentation of the Mayans that survived lead scholars to believe that the Mayans were advanced astrologers and they were much into documenting the movement of the planets with much attention to celestial events with Venus being their most sacred planet.

The Mayans are known for developing a fully developed written language which was unheard of in the Americas before the Columbus discovery. Their mathematical and astronomical systems are amazing along with their art and architecture.

One of four surviving Mayan books is called the Dresden Codex which features many pages of accurate astrological events. The factuality of these documents has caused current science specialists and historians to give much respect to the Mayan civilization.

About the Mayans, Their Beliefs and Their Practices

The Mayans were a Mesoamerica colonization. It is believed that their dedicated study of the cosmos was a ritual process that they engaged in to honor their Gods and to make predictions for the future.

The Mayans were very into cycles and they used a unique count system. They recognized definite beginnings and endings. They defined five ages and we are now in the fifth age. The Maya 2012 calendar has a cycle that clearly ends on December 21 2012 . This is the reason that the Mayan calendar 2012 is at the center of talks about the end of the world when combined with other forms of prophecy 2012 .

Some believe that the Mayan beliefs included that each age ended with human extinction, a tremendous change of life or spiritual enlightening.

Maya calendars consist of three types:

  1. The sacred calendar
  2. The solar calendar which was used for agriculture purposes
  3. The long count calendar which documented the cycles

Predictions presented on the Mayan calendar for 2012 include the Venus transit , the total solar eclipse and a galactic alignment which all have been confirmed by modern scientists.

The Speculations Derived from the 2012 Mayan Calendar

The Mayans are often credited for predicting the 2012 end of the world . Some believe that 2012 Mayan prophecies constitute a new beginning, while others view the Mayan calendar to represent the end of days .

In regard to the 2012 Mayan Calendar ending on December 21st 2012 some scholars insist that the date was simply the end of a cycle in the Mayans' count system and it doesn't mean anything.

Modern scientists are mostly concerned with the galactic alignment which was documented on the Mayan calendar. The alignment will put the sun at the center of the galaxy which may cause ice cores to melt and the sea levels to rise possibly resulting in cataclysm .

There are rumors that the Mayan civilization mysteriously disappeared, leaving their belongings behind. This intensifies the mystery of the Mayans. However, the Mayans never did disappear, although they did abandon their well-built cities. The reason for this exodus is still unknown.
