The Definition of Cataclysm
The word "cataclysm" is used to describe disaster, catastrophes and events that cause total devastation and bring about a fundamental change to the way we live or extinction of life on earth.
It is often used when referring to natural disasters like devastating floods, earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes, tidal waves, tsunamis, and so forth. It can also be used to describe cosmic events such impacts to the earth of asteroids or comets.
The term is also used to describe the effects of violent upheaval such as nuclear war followed by a nuclear winter.
Global cataclysm
is an event that would effect the whole world and there are speculations that
2012 events
will create this type of chaos and possibly lead to an
end of the world in 2012
.
What Could Cause Such Tragedies?
Earthchanges
and weather are the cause of natural disasters. Earthquakes and volcanoes can create tidal waves and tsunamis that can be devastating.
Excessive rain can cause massive flooding. Hurricanes are created by conditions of weather with low pressure areas energized by water vapor and carried by wind.
People fear
supervolcano
eruptions which they should because super volcanic eruption has caused mass extinction in the past. There are several super volcanoes that have been identified on earth as having the capability of producing a super volcanic eruption causing massive extinction.
Global warming and
pole shift
theories often end up in discussion of the melting of
ice cores
that could cause massive flooding.
Planet X 2012
theories deal with the planet earth colliding with planet x causing destruction to the whole planet.
Catastrophic impaction of asteroids or comets is believable since the extinction of dinosaurs has been attributed to
asteroid impact
.
Nuclear war is always a threat of great proportion in regard to worldwide climate changes, radiation exposure, and extinction of plants, animals and the human race.
