Galactic Alignment in 2012

John Major Jenkins is the lead voice behind the 2012 galactic alignment as well as the mysteries of the ancient Mayans and their views of cosmology. He is a self-proclaimed independent researcher who has researched the culture of the ancient Mayans endlessly in an attempt to understand their unique world view.

He published a book, Galactic Alignment: The Transformation of Consciousness According to Mayan, Egyptian, and Vedic Traditions, which aims to explain ancient traditions and what the cosmic event has to do with them. This is a very scholarly book.

The term is used to describe the alignment of the December solstice sun with the galactic equator. According to Jenkins, this alignment is rare and only occurs every 26,000 years. He claims that the Mayans were pointing to this alignment on the end date of the 2012 Mayan calendar .

The end of the Mayan calendar has arose a great deal of speculation in regard to 2012 Doomsday events with expectations of an end of the world in 2012 .

NASA scientists deny that this alignment means anything and they say that earth will not cross the galactic plane in 2012. According to them, the earth and the sun aligns with the Milky Way every year without presenting tragic events.

It appears to me that NASA and John Major Jenkins are talking about different things. Jenkins says the solstice sun will align with the galactic equator and NASA is disputing that the earth will not cross the galactic plane. The terminology confuses me.

Anyway, I have heard other theories that refer to a alignment of both the earth and the sun with the Dark Rift of the Milky Way which is defined as the center of our galaxy. That is to happen during the winter solstice 2012 which is set to occur on December 21 2012 - the same day as the end of the Mayan calendar.

Ancient cultures such as the Mayans, Egyptians and Hopis documented and/or built their architecture in according with the galactic alignment. Symbolism has been found on Freemason structures that seem to point to the alignment. Their beliefs were that such a cosmic event would present chaos or an awakening.

In addition Nostradamus 2012 prophecies pointed to such an alignment and his prophecies are filled with destruction due to cosmic events and end of the world scenarios. Many believe that cosmic events will start a domino effect presenting famine, plague and war among nations.
